Father Jeffrey Hamblin, MD is a hero of mine.
He believes music is sacred and that when you bring great music into a room, it's like bringing in the presence of God. He is why we have such a great music program at Christ Church Bay Ridge. The morning service begins at 10am (summer hours).
Like me, he's turning 60 this year. Him, this weekend. Me, October 4th.
This Sunday, we're going to pay tribute to him in music both at church and at Mark Janas Salon later on that night, an open mic night he sponsors. I have a piece I wrote for him, featuring myself and the choir, called "Fill It With Music." Mark has written a stunning arrangement of two of Dr. Hamblin's favorite hymns, "Shall We Gather At The River" and "Come, Holy Spirit, Come."
