Pyrocumulus.

Photo of fire in LA. from space.

Photo from my friend, Ernie's home in LA:

I literally would have had to leave LA if we were there now. This picture says it all. (Thanks to Steve Basile for the link).

Won't load here but saw it on your facebook. How frightening.

I don't know why your photo won't load on my computer, but all I have to do is look out the window to have a pretty good idea of what you've posted.
It's been awful. Last night I could actually watch from my bedroom window, as the flames spread down the side of the mountains in the distance. It's positively surreal to see those flames and all the smoke and the orange skies and those huge clouds. I've never seen anything like it. The smoke is starting to make me feel rotten. They're predicting it will take two more weeks to begin to get this under control. I love Angeles Forest. (Remember our visit to the "Strength for the Journey" camp?) It's impossible to think of it burning up. Not to mention the wildlife. So sad.

Thank you Amy and Gabi. I am definitely staying safe! The neighborhood where Jim and Steve and I all live is a few miles away from the fires. There's no escape from the smoke anywhere in L.A., especially the Valley areas, but we are a safe distance from the fire itself.
