Thank you Michael. It is symbol and tradition. It is gathering and memory. It is conversation and laughter. My most vivid memory is our father officiating at the seder with warmth and richness and then suddenly going into Hebrew hyper speed so we could get to the meal. My second most vivid memory is my grandmother Frieda (or Ma) standing among guests in the kitchen, one hand planted at her waist, staring into unprepared faces and asking most earnestly, "Den you hear about mine sickness?" Alan Sugar (Michael's brother)
Apparently I lied, due to an inability to remember my early childhood, stemming from extensive chemical experimentation.
My sister sent me an e-mail, reminding me that we DID color Easter eggs once. Our parents were out of the country and our grandmother was staying with us. My sister wrote, "Ma was very upset and kept insisting that Jewish children were tempting something or other by painting Easter eggs. But it was fun, and the colors were very pretty."
And there you have the definitive, final word on the subject of this particular Jewish kid coloring Easter eggs.
